Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Sophia, a scientist turned women’s holistic fitness and nutrition coach.

I started my own fitness journey about 12 years ago, but it was anything but healthy. Social media made me believe all the wrong things, and I tried it all — low carb diets, HIIT workouts, working out for multiple hours a day. Eventually, this led me to develop a very unhealthy relationship with my body and food. I would do anything to have abs, even at the expense of my health!

Then during my junior year of college, I took an exercise physiology. It changed everything for me. I realized that I was doing everything wrong. Not only did I not have abs, but I also felt incredibly unhealthy and had zero confidence.

This realization led me to study more of the science behind fitness. Everything I learned, I tried, and after years of trial and error, I finally built my dream body. More importantly, I felt strong, capable and in control of my health.

After college, I got my personal training certification. And while working full-time as a genomics scientist, I decided to start Soph's Lab because I realized something — most women aren't lacking motivation, they're lacking clarity and trustworthy information. My goal was to help women build their dream bodies with science! But as a scientist, I am always learning and iterating on my coaching, and after 2 years, I realized that looking good and feeling good are both important. Fitness is more than just lifting weights and macros.

Now I help women reach their fitness goals, while also coaching them on how to build healthy habits, manage stress, and support their menstrual cycle. Many of my clients are expecting mothers, transitioning through menopause, or dealing with hormonal conditions like PMOS (formerly called PCOS) or hypothyroidism. While they are all unique, all of them learn to understand their bodies and build sustainable fitness routines in Soph's Lab.
